Subject : 1/8" Poplar Bending Ply Same as 1/8" Poplar Ply?

There are numerous threads regarding bending plywood. I have found a particular plywood made specifically made for bending, with special plies, in 1/4" and 3/8" thicknesses, oriented either 4'x8' or 8'x4'. Occasionally there is mention of 1/8" poplar bending plywood as an alternative to the above. I have found 1/8" baltic birch plywood, and 1/8" (non-baltic) birch plywood, but not 1/8" poplar. Can someone clarify for me if "1/8" poplar bending plywood" is a generic reference to any plywood 1/8" thick, or if there is a specific 1/8" thick plywood made for laminating bent substrates?

Also, is there an MDF product made for laminating bent substrates? The thinnest MDF I have found locally is 1/2".

Thanks.

Don,

The only 1/8" poplar ply I have ever seen is the bendable kind. If there is a standard poplar ply that is not so fexible I am not aware of it.

Sincerely

HI DON,
THERE IS A MDF MADE FOR BENDING. HELL IF I KNOW WHAT WE CALL IT. WHEN WE ORDER IR WE CALL IT BENDABLE MDF. ITS ABOUT 3/16 THS THICK AND WILL GO AS TIGHT AS A 2 INCH RADIUS. IT COMES IN 4 X 8 SHEETS AND HAS SCORES ON THE BACK SIDE RUNNING THE LENGTH OF THE SHEET. YOU CAN GET 1/8 TH THICK MDF IT'S NOT UNCOMMON. AN EVEN BETTER PRODUCT IN UN-TEMPERED MASONITE. VERY LITTLE TO NO SPRING BACK REGARDLESS OF WHAT GLUE YOUR USING.

I have often seen reservations made regarding one pressed board product that has either an oil impregnated or incorporated in the materials, making glue adhesion a problem. Obviously this is not a problem with the material you use. Would you happen to know the trade name of the problem material? Thanks.
