Hello again Daryll,
I have 21 of the "X" panels you have been helping me with, so I was considering your hand held zigzag stitcher. I noticed one at Veneer Systems... http://www.veneersystems.com/haug.html#haug
What are the diferences betweem the two products?

Michael,

I don't think the stitcher is the right tool in this situation because you are using 1/16" veneer. Your thicker veneer has a stiffness to it that standard veneer doesn't have. When you try to handle the stitched up faces the stitching will tend to break along the seams. Standard veneer doesn't do this as it flexes across it width instead of being stiff, which like the 1/16" material, puts pressure on the seams.

I hope this makes sense. Because I'm recommending you don't get one there's no point in explaining the differences between them.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

Thanks for the honesty. Will regular veneer tape do the trick? And can I apply the tape to the inside face.

Michael,

As long as you use the no-hole veneer tape I think you will be fine. You cannot bury into the glue though, it must go on the outside face.

You could consider gluing the joints together. Temporarily masking tape the seams together, fold the veneer back on itself, run a bead of glue down it, fold the veneer flat and tape the other side. Once the glue dries remove the masking tape. Make sure the masking tape goes down the full length of the seam, no open gaps.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
