I only use my VacuPress now for an occasional home project. When I got it out recently, it runs but seems to be frozen up. I believe moisture may have caused some internal rust. Any ideas on how to get the pump unstuck?

Jim,

It sounds like you have a vane lock which is an easy fix. Infrequent use makes your pump much more prone to this condition.

I don't mean to leave others out of this but a direct conversation is best so we can have an on the spot dialog . Give me a call and I will walk you through it. Phone# 207-725-0935.

For the benefit of others, vane lock is usually fixed by striking the pump in a specific location. If that doesn't do it a cleaning of the vacuum chamber can be necessary. A fairly simple job

Sincerely

Hmmm, next time I press up a project I believe I will first test my pump before slathering on the glue and sliding the project into the press. I sure wouldn't want to be troubleshooting my pump while the veneer skins soak up glue in the bag. Thanks for posting this...

Roger,

Good point which I recommend everyone does. Someones chances of it happening are fairly slight but a quick check before rolling glue will sure eliminate a major panic.

Another suggestion, especially for infrequent users of rotary vane vacuum pumps. Once or twice a year put your pump aside disconnected from the bag and let it run for a solid two hours nonstop. This keeps the vacuum chamber clean and corrosion free. Even when the pump is in use it doesn't get much actual run time. Two hours of continuous running allows the vanes in the chamber to clean it out.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
