Subject : Improperly stored veneer....

I have some 7 foot sheets of veneer that have been stored rolled for about a year now...maybe longer. Don't remind me that I'm not supposed to do this...I know, but I didn't have much choice.

I'm going to use it in a project in the near future.

Here's my plan....
Roll the sheets in the opposite direction for a couple of days, then use two pieces of MDF, and let them sit pressed in between the mdf for as long as it takes to get the curl out of them.

How long might this take?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

bg

Brian,

If you get any of your veneer from Certainly Wood ask them what they think.

I cant answer it because the one time I left veneer rolled up I ended up throwing the veneer away. Luckily it was only some backer grade stuff.

When you find out how long it takes before being usable let us all know.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

I'd lightly spray each leaf of veneer with water, then press flat between paper for a few days. Change the paper often and you will be fine. I've done this several times and it worked. Try it and let us know.

If you follow Anton's advice then I suggest that you use the veneer as soon as possible. I purchased veneer at a garage sale that had been in a roll for possibly a couple years, judging from dust that had settled on it. I sprayed it with veneer softener and pressed it between MDF cauls w/ newpaper. Worked fine, but after a few weeks the portion I didn't use is now curling up again and will have to be pressed again.
