I was wondering why I never here of polyurethane glue being used in a vacuum bag? None of the top veneer glues I hear about are available locally for me. I'm in Toronto, Ontario. Don't like carpenter's glues due to excessive creep. Liquid polyurethane glue is available at the hardware store.

I've never tried poly glue in a bag, but I'll bet it will foam and make a hell of a mess in your bag.

I'm sure someone here has some experience with it to answer your question, though....

Why not mail order Unibond?

If you would rather shy away from shipping costs and buy locally, I would recommend epoxy over a poly glue.

Tom,

You can definitely use polyurethane glue in a bag. Be aware that this glue will stick to the bag somewhat. A piece of plastic thrown over your project will protect your bag. Because polyurethane glue does foam considerably you really need to apply a very fine film otherwise you can end up with a mess. Do a few small tests to get the feel of veneering with this glue. Although it is used some for veneering and does a excellent job, there are a few draw backs. Its expensive, somewhat difficult to spread, foams a lot and doesn’t have a great shelf life. I use it in special situations like when I have to re-veneer over a piece with finish already on it or when veneering to plastic, this stuff sticks to anything.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

I've used poly glue with success in my vac bag. This application was to bond metal to wood, thus the glue choice. I wrapped everything in plastic to keep any mess off of the bag.
