I have two questions:

1) I have 1/4" spalted maple veneers that I made I want to use for a hall table. What is the best glue to use ?

2) same question as above but I need to know for a maple burl with a mahogany backing on it.

3) and why do I have to veneer two sides of a substraight ?

Ok I know that was three, but I'm a needy person.

thanks in advance,
Keith

My preference in adhesive, and I'm betting most people here share the same thoughts, is Unibond 800. I've also used epoxy, but epoxy gets expensive.

If you don't veneer both sides of the substrate, it will almost always bow. You've changed the properties of the substrate on one side, but not the other.

By veneering both sides, you equalize the forces.

Brian,

Thanks for the info. weird to think a 3/4" piece of MDF or ply would warp with a thin sheet of veneer glued to one side and not the other.

Keith: Were you correct in saying that the spalted maple veneer is 1/4" thick?
