Is there a way to get the glue more white than just with the white catalyst? The glue still has a yellow color to it after mixing. I'm doing some very light, almost white veneer, and I want to stay away from any yellowing of the veneer.

Earl,

About the only way you can lighten the glue any more is to add a little titanium dioxide which is pure white pigment. You would have to get it in powder form as the paste form is usually in a oil base which you do not want. Titanium dioxide does not mix in real easily so I would blend it into the liquid resin first and then add the hardener. Use no more than 1/2 cup per gallon.

Darryl:
I heard once that glue bleed through could be limited by first treating the veneer with glue size or the flattening solution. Could you address this? Since veneer is so thin, and so prone to curling and such, I assume it would always be necessary to treat both sides at the same time. Thanks. Don

Don,

You can definitely use the flattening solution as a glue size to prevent bleed through. You would have to do the process the same as for flattening veneer, which means soaking both sides.

Personally I think it is less work to scrape off the bleed through than is is to do the entire flattening process.
