Using an electric blanket with a vacuum press to keep the temperature within the proper range for use with urea resin glues is a common practice, especially this time of year. Unfortunately, most electric blankets now require a body underneath them to work properly. Finding one that does not is almost impossible.

Recently I have found one that works the "old fashion" way where you can control the temperature whether you are underneath it or not.

I wanted to post the information for anyone who might be looking to use one with their press.

You can find them at www.vermontcountrystore.com under "classic electric blanket"

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

Thanks Darryl. I was about to buy a blanket and didn't realize the newer ones wouldn't work! I will check that website. Sounds like you saved me a headache.

Actually, I've found that the conventional blankets work fine, as long as they are layered....

For a small project, I will layer the blanket upon itself....for a large project, I'll lay additional blankets over the electric blanket.

But it sounds like your suggestion is more reliable with less hassle....I'll look into it...thanks.

(Does anyone know why those conventional blankets won't work unless there's contact with some other blanket, or a person???? Interesting...)

I always felt the reason was that without a blanket on top all the heat escapes from the top of the electric blanket. Even my "new" electric blanket works better with something light on top of it.
