Subject : finish choice for claro walnut burl

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good finish for walnut burl veneer? The rest of the piece will be in cherry. This is my first time using veneer. I'm leaning toward danish oil, but don't know the long term results.

the problem with burl is that it has alot of little holes. if you want a nice smooth finish i usually fill little holes with a lacquer stick of similar colours and then spray a sealing first lacqure coat. for all the other little gaps and stuff i drop little bits of lacqure in them, let them dry and then scrape and sand lightly

give it another coat...if more hole repeat drops. give a last coat. \

Avoid putting too many coats....always give the wood an undesirable plastic quality.

1 or 2 coats of non lacquer type sanding sealer, dead simple to apply & sand with 320.
a coat of paste wood filler coloured your choice, may take longer than a day to dry if holes are big, try a sample.
than several coats of gel urethane that is just as easy to apply as oil & a lot more durrable & will not have to be replenished.

Lacqure sticks? I'd love to know more about these, I am finishing everything I build in ML Campbell Lacqure, and would be very interested in knowing about any colored sticks if they are available.Thanks! scottblackett@comcast.net
