I have had some minor delamination around the dege when gluing veneer to MDF using PVA glue. Could it be because the MDF is too smooth. Should I rough up the surface slightly. So far, PVA seems to work fine on plywood or wood surfaces.

I agree with Darryl that glue starvation rather than the surface is the trouble you are experiencing. I have done extensive work with PVA (Jowatt 124-50) on MDF and always get the best results when I either veneer an oversize piece or lay an extra thick bead around the edge before applying the veneer. The one problem I have encountered with the extra bead is the squeeze-out needing to be cleaned off the bag after pressing.: I have had some minor delamination around the dege when gluing veneer : to MDF using PVA glue. Dear Francois,I have found MDF's can differ quite a bit in their surface smoothness, so its difficult to say if that was the problem. Roughing it up would never hurt and would probably be a good practice. Some MDF's are very absorbant and possibly you were left with not enough glue to bond the veneer properly. Plywood does not absorb the glue like MDF does, and you mentioned you had good luck with that material. With any PVA you need to work fairly fast, especially with MDF. Those are my thoughts.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have had some minor delamination around the dege when gluing veneer : to MDF using PVA glue.
