I have been using MDF ultralight "Trupan", as a core for tables and doors. I add a 3/4" solid wood edge for either shaping an edge for a table or to allow hinges to mortised and screwed to. I glue the edges on, sand flush, sometimes I run it through a drum sander, then after the veneer is pressed on and sanded I apply finish and see a line where the solid wood edge meets the MDF. Why does this happen? How can I eliminate this? Would this happen if I used honeycomb core?

Ken , are you smoothing the edges too soon after applying ? The glue can swell the edges and if surfaced too soon can result in sunken joints that can telegraph to the surface after the veneer is applied

If you are using yellow glue for this joint you may be getting cold creep from the glue which will telegraph to the veneer. Urea resin is a much harder glue which will solve this problem.SincerelyDarryl Keil
