What is the best way to attach oak veneer to MDF? I have had problems with MDF in the past when using contact cement. The MDF seemed to soak up the adhesive. Would using a primer on the MDF help?On Monday I'll be starting the veneering process, so thanks in advance for any info you can provide.Regards,Dave

The MDF Dear Dave,Contact cement is not really an acceptable glue for getting a good bond with veneer. You really need a means of pressing your panels under pressure using a PVA(white or yellow glue) or Urea resin glue.I know this requires you to obtain a press to do the job, but its really whats needed if you want your project to last.SincerelyDarryl Keil: seemed to soak up the adhesive. Dave, IMHO veneer and contact cements are not meant for each other and are not ever used together in my studio. My choice of glues for flat panels are PVAs ( I use a white with a long open time ) , and for curved work I use a plastic resin.Build it once, build it for life !
