In terms of the quality of the finished product, is 1/4" masonite any different than 1/4" plywood for use as a veneer substrate? (aside from the slight difference in actual thickness.Thanks !

Dear Joe,I dont recommend masonite as a veneering substrate. It is my understanding that masonites have some form of oil in them that do not allow glue to bond properly, especiallyon tempered masonite. I prefer to use 1/4" mdf which takes glue fine. In general I dont like1/4" plywoods, I have noticed most of them are a bit rippled and can have voids and defects.I tried masonite once, found my veneer did not bond properly and have never used it since.SincerelyDarryl Keil: In terms of the quality of the finished product, is 1/4" masonite any : different than 1/4" plywood for use as a veneer substrate? Where does one find 1/4" mdf? I have never seen it before. Actually, I thought masonite and mdf were just about the same. Hmmm.....

Most good suppliers of sheet stock will carry it. Look to the suppliers of cabinet shops or good finishing stores and not the local hardware/lumber yards like a Lowes. I have no troubles getting mine and use it regularely for thin panels
