I have been trying to do some research on the construction and lamination of skateboards. I am not very learned in the ways of lamination and was wondering if anyone here knew the ins and outs of the process. I noticed Mr. Darryl Keil had answered questions on the subject in the past and was wondering if I could ask some questions. Not to trouble you too much, but if someone could explain the process and let me know what equipment is typically used. I currently sell skateboards that I buy from leading manufacturers and I have a small shop where I build for my home and my store fixtures such as shelves (upon shelves and more shelves) and displays. I have never really done any laminating. I am interested in making my own custom skateboards. I would be most interested in techniques dealing with creation of the finest quality skateboard rather than ease of production or salvation of expense. THANKS

THANKSDear Adrian:Dear Adrian:If you want more information on vacuum pressing, I would highly recommend the vidio "Working in a vacuum" from Vacuum Pressing Systems at this web site. It took away much of the questions I had about the process. Darryl and the other people at Vacuum Pressing Systms are just a phone call away and great at answering any question.Hope this helps.Tim

Dear Adrian,Im no expert in skateboard construction but the basics of laminating an item like yours would go something like this.Make a form in the shape you want your skateboard. Remember that with vacuum pressing it is always easier to bend materian down over a form than pressing it down it. So make it a male form. I would use 1/16" veneer for the laminations themselves and each layer should run perpendicular to the next one. For the strongest and most stable lamination I would use either a Urea Resin glue or epoxy. You can use regular yellow glue but the other two yeild a premium bond. Those are the basics.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have been trying to do some research on the construction and : lamination of skateboards.
