Dear Mike,I see what you are trying to do and I have done something like this myself. There is a very simple way to do this, just use masking tape. Since the inlay is only 1/16" square, you can glue it in place by placing masking tape about every inch all the way around the table, pulling it taught across the top and down the edge. I have done this with exellent results.Sincerely Darryl Keil: Darryl: I guess I probably wasn't clear about my concerns. The down down part of the process I have fairly well under control,: my concern is that because the line will be on the outside edge of the top it has to be clamped inward against the curve: as well as being clamped down. Can I hold the line in place with veneer tape while placing the top in the bag and then press: it without a caul so that I get pressure in both directions? Failing that, how best can I clamp the line against the curve as well as : down?: Thank You for your help.: Mike: : Dear Mike,: : Since you seem to have the hard part under control, and you have access to a vacuum press,: : all you need to do is place a sheet of, lets say 1/4" masonite over the full surface of your: : table top and put it in the vacuum press. That should press your inlay in just fine. I do suggest: : some wax paper between the inlay and masonite in case any glue seeps out.: : Sincerely: : Darryl Keil: : : I have just completed my first veneered table top. It is a 36" semicircle, the substrate is MDF edged with 1/8" mahogany. The : : : top design is a mahogany sunburst with satinwood cross banding. My problem is that I would like to add a 1/16" square line to : : : the top edge of the curved top edge. Cutting the groove is not a problem but how would you recommend clamping the line in : : : place while the glue dries? I do have access to a vacuum press.
