Subject : Edge glueing sawn veneer

I am now a convert to Unibond however I am wondering about using yellow glue for the initial edge glue up of the veneers. For flat work I don't see any problem with still using yellow glue. (For the edge glueing) It is very convenient with its fast drying time and ease of aplication. Do you see a problem with this and how about on curved panels ? LVC Oh, I am talking about sawn veneers about 3/32".

Dear Link,For such a narrow strip I dont see why not. There is some possibility that the cold creepof the yellow glue will push up into the veneer but I doubt you will see it. If you wereusing a thicker nosing like 3/4” then I might suggest Unibond 800 for that too but foryour narrow edge I think you will be fine.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I am now a convert to Unibond however I am wondering about using yellow glue for the initial edge glue up of the : veneers. Darryl, Thanks for the response but I mis-spoke, I didn't mean the edge glueing, I meant the glueing of the actual veneers although I think I would be inclined to use Unibone on the edge glueing. I never use a thin strip on the edge. I hope this clears up my question.LVC

Dear Link,Oh, I get what you are doing. You are glueing the edges of the veneer together before pressing it on your panel. Yes, I would use yellow glue for this. You could use Unibond 800 on this but it is not needed. In fact, this method is also good on commercial veneer if someone is willing to spend the extra time it takes.sincerelyDarryl Keil: Darryl, Thanks for the response but I mis-spoke, I didn't mean the edge glueing, I meant the glueing of the actual veneers although I think I would be inclined to use Unibone on the edge glueing.
