A year ago I had to veneer up numerous columns for displaying vases for a musuem. I used west systems and saranwrap. First I made sure the joint was perfect then put on some witness marks to help in realigning then I protected the edges with platstic tape to prevent glue getting on veneer. (elec. tape works great) then I wetted out both veneer and column laid on veneer and temp. taped with elec tape and began wrapping with saranwrap over and over again (go to restuarant supply to get in bulk) applying more presure as layers build up make sure to do evenly to prevent waves. this system is fast and perfect results Good luck Bill

Dear Richie,If you dont have a press your only real option is to contact cement the veneer on. The problem with contact cement is it does not have the ability to overcome the veneers tendency to expand and contract through the seasons, and it often lets go when the finish is applied.Contact cement works best with non-expanding materials like plastic laminate. With that said, if contact cement is your only option, at least do not use raw veneer. Use a backed veneer or a two ply as these products are somewhat more stable.
