I am fabricating 3 frame and panel radius doors with arched tops. I'm considering cutting the arch at the top before the vaccuum/form procedure on the top lamination. This could then be used as a pattern for the other laminated strips, this is my first vaccuum project, any other ideas would be helpful. Also how many laminate strips for a 1inch rail (cherry). Radius is approx. 12 inches. Thanks, Wayne King

Darryl,Any thoughts on my idea of cutting the arch pattern, before laminating. The doors are bowed front with an arched top. Thanks, Wayne King

Dear Wayne,If I understand you question correctly, I would lean towards laminating the arch and then cut the bowed front curve out afterwards, although either way is probably fine. If my answer does not address your question properly then I need more clarification on what you are asking.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Darryl,: Any thoughts on my idea of cutting the arch pattern, before laminating. Dear Wayne,A 12" radius is fairly tight so I would go no more than 1/8" strips, even that will be rather stiff. I would more likely get 1/16" strips, you can purchase 1/16" cherrry veneer which will save all the material and labor of resawing and will bend quite nicely.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I am fabricating 3 frame and panel radius doors with arched tops.
