How do I keep (or get) glue off when veneering the final sides? When loading up any amount of glue it will seep out onto what has already been veneered.

I was thinking masking tape. What I am talking about - box (spkr of course). Front, left, right veneered. Now seperate piece for top. Load up enough glue and some will seep out to the sides already veneered. Is masking tape my best bet?
