Subject : Glue Question

I have read that titebond/titebond 2 can be used in vacuum veneering, but they do not have a rigid glue line. How much of a problem is this? When does this come into play?(meaning not having a rigid glue line) Also, I like Unibond, but have trouble with keeping temperatures above 65 degrees. Is there a way to keep the temp up in the vacuum bag so that Unibond will cure even though the surrounding area is cold? I have heard of covering the vacuum bag with an electric blanket, but I am concerned of damaging the vinyl bag? Is this an issue, or are there other issues I should be concerned about with using an electric blanket or heating the vacuum bag. Any tips and help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I really like Unibond and would use that exclusively if I can find a workaround. Thanks.

Ray,Using Titebond and other white or yellow is completely acceptable in many situations. The extra preformance you get from a rigid glue line is not always needed although it never hurts. I use it mostly under these conditions; oily woods, delicate and fragile veneers like burls, crotches and highly figured veneers. Complicated layups like radial matches and mulitple veneers going in different directions, like a table top with inlays and a short grain border. Also, any large panels that will take time to glue up as well as any panel that will become a horizontal surface and or be highly polished. For the temperature requirements of Unibond 800 and electric blanket is an excelent solution and will not damage the vinyl bag, it wont get that hot. Be sure not to get the kind that needs the heat of a human body under it to turn on, that is unless you want to climb in with your veneer.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have read that titebond/titebond 2 can be used in vacuum veneering, : but they do not have a rigid glue line. Darryl,Thanks for the reply. Unibond will be my exclusive glue. Although I love Unibond and veneers, I won't be cuddlin' up with them under the electric blanket on my next veneering project By the way, your compact 100 pump/system makes me look like I really know how to veneer. It really is a great system at a super price. Also, your commitment to your products and this site is excellent.: Ray,: Using Titebond and other white or yellow is completely acceptable in many situations.
