Subject : "Ultra-light MDF" as substrate?

My local supplier is selling "ultra-light MDF". It's about 1 inch thick, looks like MDF, but is a lot lighter. Any idea if this is a suitable substrate for veneering?

I had terrible luck (and lost alot of time and materials) with ultralite. The first run through, I had some glue failure (bubbles} and thought maybe I had a lite pass with the roller. I slit the bubbles and injected yellow glue. As i sanded, the heat must have caused more glue failure cause I had bubbles in areas that were previously set. So I doubt myself and order $400 worth of new veneer shipped express because the designer is worried about the deadline. This time I am extra attentive, everything goes ok the first 2 panels, third panel comes out with glue bleed-thru (Unibond) right where the big bubbles are!!! The failure was always oriented with the grain if that helps. I had a bit of luck "sizing" the ultralite. but I couldn't guarantee the end result after finishing so I had to bail on the project and eat a huge loss. }

Dear Jim,I have not had personal experience with the product but a few of my customers have. If a few have taken the time to call me about it then I am sure a lot more have had problems. Unfortunately I cant remember exactly the nature of the difficulties except that it didnt work well. My suggestion is to stay away from it for veneering.]SincerelyDarryl Keil: My local supplier is selling "ultra-light MDF". It's about 1 inch : thick, looks like MDF, but is a lot lighter.
