Need to veneer a 3 sided "U" shape (upside down), 19" in width, with2" radii at each downturn. Am thinking it would be best to make a twoply sheet (Sapele Pomelle + Mahogny) and then veneer that to the "U"shape made from MDF. Question is what type of glue to use for the twoply since it needs to go around a 2" radius? Also, when I glue thetwo ply to the "U" do I need a caul?

Dear Dick,I would use a yellow glue and apply the two ply to the U shape the same day you lay up the two ply. It will be more plyable the same day. You do not need a cover sheet with two ply.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Need to veneer a 3 sided "U" shape (upside down), 19" in width, with: 2" radii at each downturn. Darryl, thanks a ton for the information. Using yellow glue is fine, but I'm concerned about the "open time". The veneers are both porus and will soak in quickly. Can I thin the glue? Covering about nine square feet at one time. Temp. should be around 70-75 degrees. Thanks in advance.Dick : Dear Dick,: I would use a yellow glue and apply the two ply to the U shape the same day you lay up the two ply. It will be more plyable the same day. Dear Dick,I would not thin the glue as the additional water will just swell up the veneer that much more. 9 sqft isnt all that much and I would tape the backer veneer to your base caul and roll the veneer on that piece only. Taping it down will allow you to work fairly quickly without having the veneer curl up on you and creating a mess.SincerelyDarryl Keil: Darryl, thanks a ton for the information.
