Thank-you for the recommendation and finishing advice.cheers, roger: Roger,: I have used WEST System epoxy for many years because it's reliable and versatile. Find out about it at www.westsystem.com where there's a User's Manual with excellent information about techniques.: When I use epoxy as a surface treatment, I apply one or two coats after sanding to 220, and sanding between coats. Then I start with 150 and sand to 400, aiming for an even, smooth surface. Then two coats of polymerizing oil (Danish Oil Finish, Antique Oil Finish, Watco, whatever), burnished with 0000 steel wool when dry. I apply paste wax with steel wool and rub with rag or steel wool, depending on the sheen I want. There are a thousand other procedures, I'm sure, but this works for me.: I hope this helps.: : : I am preparing to veneer with Macassar ebony and Daryl recommended I : : put a coat of epoxy on the surface to prevent surface fissures that : : might appear over time. Though it sounds pretty straight-forward, I : : am unfamiliar with this technique and it's not mentioned in videos : : or books I own, so any pointers would be appreciated. In particular : : what kind/brand of epoxy is recommended and can I apply an oil/poly : : over it? Many thanks.: : Roger : : PS - for those living in the Seattle area, Edensaw just received : : some drop dead gorgeous figured cherry veneer which they are selling : : for $0.65/sf. so many different kinds of wood, so little time
