Darryl or anyone who wants to address this question,Thanks for the feedback. I tried stripping the surface of my dresser. I scraped about 1/8" or perhaps 1/4" inch deep. I could not hit a solid wood surface. There's something like cardboard underneath the finish. Does this sound familiar to you? If this sounds like a familiar finish to you, is it possible to do something to this dresser to make the surface loook better? : Sonya,: I could give you all sorts of speculative thoughts about your piece but some simple advice would be to strip the finish for starters. You should have a better idea what condition the veneer is in after that. If its not real veneer, you'll find that out when you go to strip it.: Sincerely: Darryl Keil: : I wish to restore my bedroom furniture from childhood. I don't know : : much about rehabing furniture but I'd like to try it. I'm not sure : : what kind of finish I have. The wood is heavy but the finish is : : synthetic. I'm assuming it's veneer. It looks like it's going to be : : tricky to remove. It doesn't look like it's going to peel off easily. : : the top of my dresser is pretty damaged and parts of the finish has : : come off. Is it possible that I could have another finish other than : : veneer? The furniture was purchased in the late 70s. What can I do : : to remove it?
