Subject : veneering a box

In the past I have always veneered both sides of a panel. However, I need to build a box with all of the corners mitered. I imagine it would be much easier to apply the veneer after the box is built. This makes pressing the veneer on the interior impossible. Because the structure of the box will increase the ridgidity of the panel, can I get away without veneering the interior?Suggestions, techniques? Is it time to get out the Contact cement and paperbacked veneer? (Not my preference)Thanks in advance.Michael Lomax

Michael,Because boxes are usually not very big you can get away with just veneering the outside. I think you will be fine with that.SincerelyDarryl Keil: In the past I have always veneered both sides of a panel. However, I : need to build a box with all of the corners mitered. : Michael,I should have given you dimensions in the first message. While not large, the box will be about 20" x 20" x 13". The box is meant to be completely closed and will not be opened. If internal stiffners were used do you think things would still be OK?Thanks again,Michael Lomax: Because boxes are usually not very big you can get away with just veneering the outside. Michael,Your right, I didnt know the box was so big and that it didnt open. In that case I would put in internal bracing and you will be fine. Besides, if you veneer a box this big in a vacuum press without bracing it would most likely implode.SincerelyDarryl Keil: : Michael,: I should have given you dimensions in the first message.
