I may disagree, we do allot of custom veneer work, and to get it pressed, we remove the sand paper from our performax 37" dual drum sander and run it through there a few times letting the drums contact and press it down. We always use contact cement with this method, we start with a veneer hammer then run it through the sander leting the drums press on it firmly, but not so much to harm the sander. I have never had a problem.

A pinch roller is used when laminatng panels with contact cement. It is generally used by larger (production) shops, and mostly for plastic laminate. It's basically two long, rubber covered rollers, one fixed and one adjustable as to the space between them. The fixed roller is powered, so when you place a panel up to the rollers, it's passed through like when using a planer. The key to success with contact cement is plenty of pressure to squeeze the laminate down tight to the substrate, and for shops that do acres of p-lam, it's more cost effective than paying someone to hand roll every square inch of laminate. Not really applicable to veneering, in my opinion.
