I have recently stumbled across a kind of PVA type glue that bonds any nonporous surface to a porous one. So one could glue plastics, metals and other nonporous sheet products to MDF, plywood, particle board and solid wood. I glued some very glossy plastic sheets to MDF and plywood. With both tests I ripped up the substrates trying to get the plastic sheets off. There was not a square inch of the plastic that released from the MDF or plywood. I was very impressed with the bond strength. Think of this glue as a cross between a PVA and a contact cement. That's why one of the surfaces needs to be porous, for the PVA aspect of the glue. The glue line is not particularly rigid so it would not be good for veneering but its definitely harder than contact cement. Besides plastics and metals I think it would be quite good for plastic laminates, (formica) as well. I'm going to do more testing but I think the press times can be quite short as well. It might even be good for paper backed and wood on wood veneer, going to test these two.

My question is, would folks be interested and have a use for this kind of glue? If I get enough positive responses I might decide to carry some.

Consider this a positive response. I don't think I'd use a glue like this a whole bunch but having it around the shop would be a good thing. Presently I usually turn to a poly glue or epoxy to glue metal to wood. I'd much prefer a pva sort of non-toxic product. What is the shelf life? Is it waterproof or, at least, water resistant? Does one use it like any other pva?

Figure the shelf life about the same as any PVA glue. Its water resistant but not waterproof. I wouldn't use it on an exterior application. You use it just like you would for any PVA glue, roll the glue on the substrate and press. You don't coat both surfaces. I'm amazed at how well it bonds.
