Subject : Speaker Cabinets...Backer Veneer?
Posted : 2016-02-16 3:07 PM
Post #37449

I'm building some speaker cabinets, and it will be much easier to veneer prior to assembling.

I'm debating if I should add a backer veneer. The cabinets have plenty of internal support. I'll attach links to photos of the cabinets.

In the photos, you can see there there's plenty of internal support. I'm thinking that no backer veneer is necessary. And if I do create a backer veneer, it will be very tough to clean out the dadoes of all squeezed out glue prior to assembly.

Thoughts? Backer veneer necessary?

Thanks in advance

How willing are you to accept risk, even if small, of warping? Certainly you could veneer before making all the dadoes and cutouts. Is the risk of scratching the veneer during routing greater than the risk of warping?

The dadoes are already cut.
