Sorry - just one other question if I may. I connected the bag for the first time today and the gauge immediately flicked to the maximum (30) and then dropped straight back. I thought I had a leak but everything was fine and the bag was holding solid. In fact I had an oversized 3/4" sheet of melamine board on the top and it just snapped that in two where it overhung.

Am I doing something wrong or should I only be pulling a small amount of pressure rather than having it on full?

Rule 1 is don't hesitate to ask questions, one per week or more if helpful to you. We don't see enough activity on the forum. I've asked a hundred or more questions since I joined. And every question is a chance to refresh memories.

I'm not sure why your gauge would have dropped back to zero if the bag was still showing a good vacuum.

My system is set to turn off the pump at about 25 psi and to turn it back on at about 22 psi.

Your needle on the gauge may have come loose. Trying taking off the clear gauge face and checking to see if the needle is loose. If it is you can simply push it firmly back on.
