Richard,
Vacuum pumps are used in a lot of different industries. Some of these have a lot of oily residue that can work its way into the pump. Oil is the death of an oiless rotary vane pump, hence a flushing solution. In vacuum pressing there is rarely any oily substances but a fair amount of water vapor which causes corrosion in the vacuum chamber. You wont harm the pump if you flush it but any sluggish performance is most likely due to corrosion, not oil residue. If you want to flush it anyway just use some denatured alcohol. Take the pump outside as the alcohol is going to spray all over the place. Use about 1 cups worth and quickly dip the hose into the alcohol and remove it quickly. Do this two or three times until its all gone.
For corrosion issues just run the pump disconnected from the bag for about two hours non-stop. The friction of the vanes in the chamber should clean out any corrosion build up.
