I thought i would pose these questions on this forum because the common thread is "veneer"
Some guitar builders are now making their curved sides with a 2 ply lam in parallel,of approx. .040 each. Even mixing species softwood & hardwood, generally quarter sawn. Of course a 3 or 5 ply side, of typical 90 de. layup can be done with no particular issues, is easily done. Any comments
Backs however are another consideration.
A plywood back evidently does not sound right or have a proper "tap tone" compared to solid wood.
But what about a lamination of 4 layers in sequence. Do you think that would be stable? It would have 4 braces going cross it.

To show how dense I can be, if the 4 layers are kept in sequence and glued back together with grain in common direction, what is advantage over solid wood? The three glue lines seemingly could affect sound quality.

One advantage is the cost. i have some brazilian rosewood I paid $1.50 sq ft last year. The cost of the veneer guitar is $32.00. Solid BRW if you can find it is $500 to $2000 for an insturment grade set. Also, it, the sides anyway, appear to be more stable. I don't think the glue is an issue. What seems to be more of an issue re. sound is a typical 90 de ply set up for the back, 3 or 5 ply vs. all veneers runing in parallel. Won't know until I try it & compare finished guitar to another, all things
equal to a solid or a parallel veneer back
