I'm doing a 13' long curved bar front with walnut burl raised panels. Dilemma=can't find that much solid walnut burl material at least 30" long. Possible solution? I've seen raised panels that were obviously veneer over substrate and the veener actually formed into the cove cut of the profile. I don't see how this is possible without making some sort of notch cut (as if wrapping a corner with fabric) in the corners of panel scoop. Wouldn't the veneer just buckle? If using a vaccum press, and the veneer was thin enough, would it push flat? Has anyone tried this?

Jerome,

Yes, you can veneer a cove raised panel with a vacuum press. The cove needs to be gentle and there are some tricks to get it right without wrinkling at the corners. You would want to do some practice attempts ahead of time to get the feel of it.

DK is too polite to self-promote, but you might benefit from a copy of his second video, which demonstrates veneering cove crown molding. It should be available from the web site. Some testing might be needed to get the notch correct. Perhaps you could change the design to simplify the panel and eliminate the notch?
