I'm doing a piece of marquetry where some of the veneer is 1/32" but the dyed veneer is 1/50". Is this going to cause a problem?

hi brent,

If you mean in the pressing process it won't if you use a piece of rigid foam as your caul.

I use 2 inch pink or blue from home depot . this will form to the inconsistency's in the veneer thickness.

you can use 1 inch if you want.

Brent,

Another method that I have successfully used is a sheet of canvas between the veneer and the caul. Just be sure to include some plastic sheeting between the veneer and the canvas to prevent gluing the canvas to the veneer.

BTW, this is a tip that I learned from one of Paul Schürch's videos. And, Paul sells this canvas on his website.

Charles
