Looking for the whitest raw wood veneer I can find with minimal grain pattern. Not asking too much, eh? Have some holly and it's great, but more of a cream color. Maple might have slightly less color than holly but usually has some lurking wavy grain pattern. Ash very noticeable grain. Anything I haven't tried? Neighbor suggested "mircata" as he's used it for knife handle inlay, but its synthetic plastic rather than wood. Can anyone "make my day?"

How about bleaching the holly, I'm going to try it myself but not for a couple of months>

i went out to a barn last week I had been keeping a bunch of stuff over the last 20 years & I came upon some hop hornbeam 'ironwood', that i had cut down 25 years ago, I had forgot all about it. It is pretty similar to holly . It grow in eastern ontario, anywhere between 4 & 12" was the biggest i recall. I may find more later but this stuff was only 24" long.
I turner some malllets out of it & it is very hard & heavey.
