I just received my copy.

http://www.silaskopf.com/dvd.html

I highly recommend this book. At $65, it's actually a steal. PLENTY of pictures.

I would say that it's about 50% marquetry history, and 50% Silas' work.

Then there's only about 20-30 pages of what I would consider instruction, but it's still a must-read for any marqueter.

If anything, it's worth it because there's a LOT of Silas' work that I haven't seen before, and I thought that I had seen most if not all of it.

When it comes to the marquetry must-have books, I would say that the trio be Pierre Ramond, "Masterpieces of Marquetry" and "Marquetry" by the same author, and then this one by Silas.

Like I said, it's light on instruction, but you can get his DVD for that side of things.

Not to downplay Paul Schurch's DVD, by any means...just understand that Silas and Paul have two different approaches.

Silas bevel cuts (except for his Boulle work), and Paul Stack cuts.

I've worked with both Paul and Silas, and it's nice to know both methods.

Check out the book...wonderful.

I agree, excellent book. Buy it at Amazon and it's $40.

Dangerous book though. I just finished a table with marquetry sailing ships on the sides and a compas rose on the top. Feeling pretty good about it. After seeing his book I wanted to burn the table. I'm in big trouble if my customers start comparing my work to what's in that book.

I have no idea what your prices may be like Brent, but I would guess that once they compare prices, they'll regain their senses.

I can only imaging the disposable income that Silas' clients have.
