For those of you that use a scalpel for small work.
What size (number) blade do you use?
Could it be a #11 or a #25 ??

From what I can see on Paul Schurch site it looks like a pretty straight blade. I know its suppose to be a "post-mortem" scalpel, but I have not had much luck on that search.

Thanks
Dave

Dave:

The blade is actually size "10-A". I have been using them for several years and I have grown to prefer them over the size "11" blade for most veneer cutting tasks. The Swann-Morton "10-A" post mortem blades are non-sterile and are high carbon steel, as opposed to the better known stainless steel sterile blades, and are difficult to find. In fact my supplier has recently stopped stocking them. However, they can be re-sharpened 3-4 times using a fine diamond stone or water stone(image attached).

I am back to ordering blades from Paul Schurch and although his price is a little high, I find that it balances out when I add a few packs of blades to my order of other supplies from him. Plus, I find that a pack of 5 blades lasts through many projects by sharpening the tip of the blade as mentioned before.

I am keeping my eyes open for another vendor for the blades. When I find one, I'll let you know.

Marc

Hey Marc-
Yes you are just a couple of hours from me. If you ever get up near Waco, give me a shout. But I dont want to hear nothin bout Aggies beating up on Baylor Bears - LOL.

I found a medical supplier on the internet that had the 10a blades. I recieved them yesterday and have been playing with them this morning. They do cut nice, I like it.
I have a Festool saw which is great for batch cutting (with the exception of QSWO), but these scalpels do a great job of cutting single pieces and smaller projects.

Thanks
Dave
