I have seen some posts regarding evacunet and checked out the product on this site (btw-the link on the product page takes you to a foot switch).

So I am wondering what do y'all use evacunet for? Do you use it on flat panels instead of a top caul ? Or do you just use it for curved work ?

Thanks
Dave

I use it on top of virtually every job. I have a 5'x10' flip-top table, and have a 4'x8' piece of evacunet that goes on just before I close the top. I use the 4'x8' piece regardless of the size of the project being pressed. It allows the vacuum to reach the entire top surface. This allows the ever-important uniform pressure to be applied over the entire surface.

In my opinion, it is not a replacement for a top caul. Although, when laminating a couple of 3/4" thick panels together, I have successfully skipped the top caul and only used the evacunet. However, I would always use a caul for standard veneer work.

Evacunet also prevents sharp corners on the top caul from poking holes in the poly bag. This is handy if I have forgotten to round over one or more sharp corners.

Dave,

Evacunet's primary purpose is as a substitute for a regular grooved platen. There are situations where a platen just wont work.

It can also be used for additional evacuation on top of the panel but I don't recommend it to be used without a caul between it and the veneer. There's a chance that it could leave a permanent imprint in the veneer.
