I have been thinking about making my own veneer, for bent laminates. What tool would be best to mill the stock flat, after resawing on a band saw? I have never used a large drum table sander or a planer. Looking to make the veneer somewhere between a 1/16" and a 1/8".

I use a drum sander, 120 grit. Before I had one, I used to use the planer and a jig to hold the veneer as it goes through, but inevitably at least a few sheets would get eaten up ... sometimes more depending on the species. With the drum sander, I can also make my veneer thinner, thus getting more out of that special plank. Personally, I wouldn't want the veneer thicker than a 1/16th.

Enrico is right on with the drum sander.

Rather than looking into buying your own expensive Performax, however, I recommend calling some local cabinet shops and see if they would thickness your veneer for a small cost.
