and do both sides need to be veneered at the same time?

I have a table top of nominal 3/4" Baltic Birch(42" by 52" that has been edge banded with 1" by 1 1/4". The veneer to be used is Flexwood walnut flat cut (4' x 8' paperbacked). My plan is the position the venner for the best appearance on the show side and to use the waste that is trimmed on the under side of the top.

The veneer on the show side will cover the edge banding. Do I need to apply the veneer to both sides before I put it in the vacumm press? It would make the job simple if it is done in two seperate stages.

The glues that I have available are Titebond II, Titebond Cold Press, Urac 185, and Unibond 800 with the dark catalyst. I, also, have the blocker for the Unibond 800. Is the blocker needed?

It should be in the 80's today and the 70's tomorrow in North Texas. I do have an electric blanket that I have used in colder weather. Any advantage of using the blanket with the current forecast?

Trosey,

You don't have to veneer both sides at the same time but I do recommend that you go immediately back in to press the second side when you finish pressing the first one.

As far as which glue to use, how about you mix them all together and...just kidding. If it was raw unbacked veneer I would suggest the Urac or Unibond, but since its paperbacked its less important to have the catalytic bond you get from these glue's. If its a large panel and you need the extra open time then again I would go for the Urac or Unibond. If you can get in the press in a few minutes then the PVA glues would be acceptable as well.

The Unibond Blocker has no value on paper backed veneer since you don't have any bleed through to try and eliminate. The blocker shouldn't be used with the Titebond glues at all under any circumstances.

Sincerely

Thanks, Darryl.

Two stages(one just after the other) with Unibond 800 it will be.
