I would really like to veneer the interior trim pieces in my car and would like to know if this is possible, and what kind of equipment is needed??? Also any tips for handling the tight radius' that you commonly find in these pieces. Most likely would like to use birds eye maple, so if there are any problems with that, let me know as well. Thanks for the help!!! You never know, this could be the career change that I've been looking for!

Try this URL, http://www.wood-veneers.com/gallery59.html or go to his own website http://www.woodybikeshop.com/pages/1/index.htm and see a veneered motorcycle, fenders and all. Gary Pitts seems to be veneering wierd shapes, so he would have good answers to veneering with compound curves. Dave

Steve,

I know a number of folks that are veneering or re-veneering interior car trim with vacuum presses.

Depending on the bend it usually takes some massaging of the veneer through the bag as well as light wetting to make it more flexible. Birdseye maple is a great veneer to do this with. Its one of my choices for compound bend work along with walnut burl which is the best for this.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
