Is it possible to veneer drawer fronts without taking drawers apart?
I had hoped to veneer a large number of drawers leaving a 1 1/2 in border all the way around. All fronts are flat with no obstructions. Can vac tape and a vinyl cover placed on the drawer front and pumped down exert enough pressue to creat a bond. (like a reverse vac clamp)? Any other suggestions??

Why not just plenty of mechanical clamps?

Every method of veneering has its place. I think this is a situation where hammer veneering with hot hide glues shines. Especially where you want to cut in a border. You can reposition the veneers or panel by simply warming the glue with an iron. You can put your border in afterwards without having to worry about a premade panel shifting. I am a huge advocate of unibond 800 but not in this application.
