I am making a humidor and plan to use MDF as a substrate and walnut burl veneer for the exterior. I would like to use a spanish cedar veneer for the interior but can only find the 10 mil paperbacked variety. Will the difference in thickness between the two veneers cause the panels to warp? Should I try to find a source for unbacked spanish cedar veneer (seems to be non-existant)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Just had a really good conversation with Jim at Certainly wood and he was able to answer all of my questions. For those of you with a similar concern. Jim said that they do carry unbacked spanish cedar veneer that is very close to thickness to the walnut burl. Hope this might help those of you who may have similar concerns.

Its sounds like you have your solution but I will address you original question anyway.

Although the difference between raw walnut burl veneer and 10mil paperbacked cedar could cause some minimal warpage it wouldn't really show up on something as small as a humidor. The panel would have to be considerably larger for warpage to be an issue, and even then it wouldn't be much. Only on a free swinging door would I be concerned.
