I have a press panel with too much Yellow glue in the application. Can anyone give me advice about removing the trapped glue in order to flatten out the panel.

Thanks

Jim

If you want to salvage the substrate, you could use a drum sander to flatten the panel, granted that one side is still flat. If you don't have a drum sander, there's a couple of woodshops with nice wide sanders in my area that flatten panels for me for a small charge...check your area.

If you want to salvage the veneer, I'm afraid you're in trouble.

But in all honesty, I'd just scrap it and start over, unless there's some reason to salvage that I'm missing.

I have a couple of botched panels hanging on the shop wall as mistake reminders....

Jim, unless this is a labor intensive panel ( solid wood and shaped) I would chunk it and start over. Be very careful about over gluing especially with yellow glue. I use unibond 800 and I get 300-400 sq. in. per fl. oz. depends greatly on veneer and substrate.

If you need to save the substrate, get a belt sander and a box of 60 grit belts and start sanding. You may even need two boxes, when that glue gets warm from sanding it tends to gum up belts pretty quick.
