Have just completed my first veneering project, a small demilune table with a walnut sunburst veneer pattern, for this I just used walnut veneer to edgeband after the top was done.
My next project I want to make a round table about 40" and have it edged with solid wood so I can rout a profile after it's done.
What is the best way to affix a solid wood edging to say an MDF substrate?
What I have thought of... make the substrate hexagonal, miter the edging, attach with biscuts, then bandsaw round, but this would make the veneer run over the edging much more than the 1/16 which others have said not to do.
Or... use a circle cutting jig for the router, and try to precisely cut a circular substarte that matches a circle cut from mitered up boards(hexagonal or more depending on width of boards). Would be afraid if it was off just a little would have gaps to fill between edging and substrate, maybe a polyurethane glue would be good for this part, this method wouldn't make it easy to re-enforce the joint with biscuts/splines though
Any advice?
Thanks
