Subject : Substrate adhesive for PSA veneer

I bought the press and hickory veneer from Rockler at the same time. When I read the instructions for both I get conflicting info. Veneer info says nothing about applying glue to the substrate. Store guys say use contact cement, Vacupress says no to contact cement but has no refence to PSA veneers. Any suggestions?

Now that you have a vacuum press you no longer need to use contact cement. Contact cement gets recommended for veneering because many folks dont have a press and contact cement ends up as the only solution, although a very poor one.

I'm a little confused about the PSA veneer you purchased. If this is a veneer with an adhesive backing already applied I dont understand why you would be instructed to use contact cement. If it doesnt have a adhesive backing then you would just use a regular wood glue on the substrate and press it in your vacuum press provided its backed with a paper product and not some nonporous surface.

Thanks for the info Darryl. I was under the impression that both surfaces need some form of adhesive for a good bond. The only reason that I have PSA in this application is because I could not get the hickory veneer I needed in any other form (without waiting for mail order from a source I never dealt with).
