I'm new to veneering and have only used "plastic powder resin" glue in a vacuum bag. It worked fine but the drying time is 6 hours. This means that I have to go back to the shop at 9o or 10:00 PM to set up a 3rd batch.
I'm gluing 2 sides of flat panels with loose veneer (cabinet door panels). Is there a faster setting glue that does not require you to apply heat?
Thanks Alan.

I've pressed plenty of times with PVA's (yellow glue), but I've come up with mixed results at times. Sometimes the veneer wrinkles....I'm not always happy with it.

If I'm in a bind for time, I might use a PVA, but it's with the understanding that it might not work perfectly.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but my success percentage with PVA's is much lower than when I use Unibond or epoxy.

Alan,

I have a couple of suggestions. Using an electric blanket will greatly reduce the set time of plastic resin glue. Another option is to use Unibond 800 which is a much faster setting liquid version of plastic resin. Set time with Unibond 800 should be about half the time.

Yellow glue of course in another option but does not give you the rigidity and performance of a resin glue. With that said I will use yellow glue when the project doesnt need the extra perfomance. It depends on the kind of veneer and how it will be used. Example, flat cut cherry on cabinet doors or end panels, I may use yellow glue. 4 way matched walnut burl table top, no way!

By the way Brian, your experience with getting less than consistent, perfect results with yellow glue is normal. Some species of veneer are very prone to wrinkling using this glue.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil
