Subject : Veneering large doors with vacupress?

Hello!
I am new in this forum. I live in Austria in central europe, sorry for my poor English I hope it is comprehensible.
I think of a special aplication of veneering with vaccu: I plan to rebuild all the doors (16) in my house. These doors and the timber sets are 40 years old and modern doors don’t fit. There is no more industrial production of these doors and I don’t want to change the timber sets. Therefore I have reveneer some of the doors and to produce and veneer the rest.
The doors are circa 40’’ x 80’’. Does anyone have experience with vaccum veneering of such large and flat plates. Is this possible or are there special problems. What equipment do I need to buy? What are the critical things I have to care of? I aks you for advice.

You refer to 40x80 flat doors, I'm assuming that they are "hollow-core" doors (a thin plywood panel over a softwood frame) -- They'll be very light. If your doors are hollow, then a vacuum press would likely crush them.

Don't use contact cement.

Larry is quite right about hollow core doors, vacuum will completely crush them. If they are solid core that you would be fine.

Just get yourself a 4'x 8' vacuum press and veneering them should be quite easy. Glue, veneer, and cover sheet. Thats all there is to it. Be sure to do both sides at the same time.
