Subject : Bleaching Holly?

It has been well over a year since I last had some white veneer to work with (the last was Silver Aspen from B&B which is now out of stock). I recently located a source for Holly (Constantines in Fl) and ordered a bundle but it has a yellow cast to it and resembles yellow pine. Does anyone know if it's possible to bleach holly to whiten it up a bit and, if so, how do you recommend doing it - I haven't bleached or dyed veneer before.

Also, if anyone knows of a source for clean white holly or silver aspen, please send me a private message (email). I have a project that I have been waiting to do which requires a fair bit of white veneer.

Thanks,
Roger

Roger,

You could definitely bleach the holly. I always have gotten a two part bleach from Sherwin William Paint stores. Its a fairly simple process, you brush on one substance, let it sit and then brush on the second one. Instructions on the bottles cover it pretty well. After its bleached and neutralized you will have to do the drying process thats done with the flattening formula.

Sincerely

Thanks Daryl,

I will check my local paint store for the product you mentioned.

Cheers,
Roger
