Hi again, Thanks Darryl for this great resource!
I'm about to put my second veneering project into the vacupress, and I'm suddenly not sure about the integrity of my table edge design. The project is a demilune table which is similar to the one David Marks did on his Woodworks show. His version uses bandsawn veneers which are 3/32" thick, and the tabletop is edged with a strip of cherry before the veneer step. Hence, the veneer comes right to the edge of the table...overlapping the cherry edging.
My plan is to use a commercial macassar ebony veneer, which is about 22 thou thick. My question is...can a thin commercial veneer go right to the edge of a tabletop as was done with the bandsawn veneers on David's show? I'm worried that the integrity of the table edge will not be maintained as the table is used? OR should I plan to add the cherry edge strip after the tabletop veneer is applied? This would have a different look, since when viewing the table from above, the cherry edge will be contrasted with the ebony.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
