Hello,

I'm going to do some bent laminations and was wondering which way to make the forms: concave or convex. I'm leaning towards convex thinking it would be easier on the bag and provide better/more even clamping. Any thoughts?

tks

Adam,

Its always better to do convex if you can. The bag has an easier time bending items over a form than pushing it down into one. With a concave form you can lock the laminations on the high points which will prevent the low point from pressing firmly against the form. There are way to get around that but its simpler to just go convex.

Adam,
Daryl is right, as usual.
Just remember to extend the curves beyond what you need for your workpiece, because the material will tend to flatten out at the ends of the curve. (It's harder to bend a narrow section than a wide one, and the nearer the edge of the material, the harder it is.)
Good luck.
Tom
